Wagashi workshop

 

Learn how to make Japanese sweets, wagashi, which represent winter months and sping months  mochi for January, mushimanjyu for February, chatsu for March and sakuramochi for April. After making these wagashi, participants can enjoy their own hand-made sweets over a cup of tea. 

To follow proper Tea Ceremony etiquette, participants are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to the ceremony and to wear white socks. To protect the tatami mats, shoes are not allowed to be worn in the Tea or Guest House. Space is limited for all tea gatherings and reservations are required.


The tea ceremonies & workshop will be led by Kimiko Gunji, Professor Emeritus of Japanese Traditional Art and Culture and former Director of Japan House at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
