12:30 PM  –  1:30 PM

Anderson Japanese Gardens' tea gatherings will feature a hanami chakai, or traditional Japanese Flower Viewing Tea Ceremony and provide a hands-on lesson focused on proper tea serving procedures and guest etiquette. Tea Ceremonies will be held in Anderson Japanese Gardens’ Guest House. To follow proper Tea Ceremony etiquette, participants are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to the ceremony and wear white socks. To protect the tatami mats, shoes are not allowed to be worn in the Tea House.  Space is limited for all tea gatherings and reservations are required.

The tea ceremonies & workshop will be led by Kimiko Gunji, Professor Emeritus of Japanese Traditional Art and Culture and former Director of Japan House at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
