Rikyuki-A Memorial Tea Gathering to honor the life of Sen Rikyu.

Anderson Japanese Gardens Tea Study Group will host a special tea gathering to honor the life of Sen Rikyu(1522-1591), the founder of the Sen family and one of the most influential and innovative Tea Masters in the history of Chado, the Japanese Way of Tea. The present Grand Master of the Urasenke Tradition of Tea is Sen Soshitsu, 16th generation descendant of Sen Rikyu.

David Mungenast, who is a member of Anderson Japanese Gardens Tea Study Group, will talk on the life of Rikyu and the significance of observing this historical memorial day. Following this, a bowl of matcha, green powdered tea, will be offered in memory of Sen Rikyu by Professor Kimiko Gunji. After the offering, all attendees will be served a special sweet called Rikyu Manju and a bowl of matcha-green powdered tea.
